It doesn't harm them. The sound when they get close is annoying. It would be like a car alarm going off for us. We might put up with it initially but then decide to move away. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAlthough the instructions in the box are quite detailed we still found some customers struggling with the basic settings. To solve this we created a video that you will find at the end of the product photos. We highly recommend watching this.  The main area of confusion is that the optional blue flashing light only works at night time. Customers were attempting to turn it on and off in daylight and couldn't understand why it wasn't working. The simple solution is to place your hand over the solar panel to simulate night time and then you will be able to see the blue light on or off. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCustomers sometimes position these in strange places. The device gets recharged by the solar panel so it needs to be in full sun. It also needs to be installed at the approximate height that the animal travels. eg. if its a possum, travelling along the top of the fence, you may need to position the repeller on a star picket up at that height. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe range is 8m radius in all directions, but can be blocked by foliage, walls, changes in level etc. Sometimes more than 1 ultrasonic repeller will be required to sufficiently protect the area. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThere is an audible mode where the frequency drops to our hearing range. This mode is good if you are repelling an older animal that has lost their ultra high frequency hearing. Customers have also said this audible mode is effective on birds inc bush turkeys. It is an annoying sound that our human ears can hear so in most cases it is best to switch off audible mode and just use the ultra frequencies.
