There are cheap versions of these around but they are only going to fall apart and lead to frustration and more landfill. These are beautifully made to last and perfect for growing veggies, herbs or other plants.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs a guide, you will need 4 bags of potting mix (25L) to fill these. The total required per black planter is 100 litres. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIf you are buying a few, get a load of potting mix delivered from your local soil yard. You will need 100L per bag. 10 Geofelt planters needs 1cubic meter of potting mix. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNOTE\u003c\/strong\u003e: Use Potting mix, not heavy soil from your garden or soil yard which often contains sand. The handles on these planters are designed to carry the weight of potting mix only which is lighter than garden soil. This will also make them easier to lift and move if needed. This makes it very easy to grow non fruiting vegetables with no pesticides needed. \u003cbr\u003eeg. lettuce, spinach, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, herbs, potatoes, onions, garlic, rocket, and more. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGeofelt planters are best placed on concrete, pavers, mulch, gravel. \u003cbr\u003eIf placed on decking add a 600mm circle of black builders plastic underneath so the water will run off the sides. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlacing directly on grass is not ideal because maintaining the grass will be difficult. A whipper snipper used repeatedly would damage the geofelt. The easiest approach is to mow the grass down low and then add a thick layer (100mm) of woodchip mulch and sit the geofelt planters on top of that. This will stop the grass growing directly around the planter bag. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePotential problems\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCustomers may complain about the amount of potting mix required to fill each planter and start asking if they can add 'rubbish' to the bottom like polystyrene, sticks, rocks etc. This is \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003enot\u003c\/span\u003e a good idea. The 400mm of soil depth is a huge benefit because it stops the plants drying out on hot days. The potting mix soaks up the water like a sponge and holds it for several days. \u003cbr\u003eEach planter needs 100L of potting mix. A standard bag of potting mix is 25L so it requires 4 of these bags. Great if your store sells potting mix too. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAlternatively when customers are setting up 5 or more geofelt planters it is better to order a load of bulk potting mix from their local soil yard. 1 cubic metre fills 10 geofelt planters. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCustomers break the handles off because they dont fill the planters with potting mix but instead use garden soil which has sand\/loam and is much heavier. The planter bag handles are weight tested to easily carry the full planter with potting mix even when wet. Once you fill them with sand  based mixes they become too heavy to move about. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCustomers think the black fabric will cook the soil. The geofelt fabric releases the heat allowing the soil to breath. See the test results shown above. Unlike black hard plastic pots which trap the heat, the gefoelts release the heat and maintain the soil temps in a comfortable range. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e'Mold' growing on planter towards base: This is not mold but will usually be salts leeching out of the soil. If the moisture content is high in the planter they will sometimes get lichen growing on the outside of the geofelt planter. This is a sign of good air quality and moisture. Nothing to be worried about. There is a full colour sticker with barcode on each bag.
